AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE CAUSE OF MALE ATTITUDE TOWARD HOME ECONOMICS EDUCATION IN HIGHER INSTITUTION.

ABSTRACT

The objective of this research work was to find out the investigation into the cause of Male Attitude Toward Home Economics Education in Higher Institution. This research work as an investigation to find data for this study, a total of One Hundred and Fifty  (150) respondents were selected from the Department of Home Economics, University of Benin, Four (4) research questions were raised.

Questionnaire was the major instrument used for data collection. The questionnaire was made up of section ‘A’ and ‘B’. While section ‘A’ contained the bio-data of the respondents, section B was meant to elicit data on various research question.

 After carrying out the research, based on the findings the research found that:

• Home Economics is relevant to the male students in the society
• Home economics bring about employment in the carrier choice of a male
• Most students have heard of a course called Home Economics Education
• Most challenges males face that influences their choice of studies are male peer influence and parental influence

Based on the conclusion drawn from the findings the following recommendations were raised:

• Home Economics should be taught in all school level
• That societies should encourage male students to study Home Economics
• That more male Home Economics teachers should be employed to teach Home Economics in higher Institution in other to encourage male students who want to study the course.
• Parents should guide and educate male children on the importance of Home Economics in Societal building.
