ABSTRACT
Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT are transforming education, offering both potential benefits and drawbacks. This study investigates the usage of ChatGPT among undergraduate students in Lagos, Nigeria. It aims to understand the prevalence of this technology, student perceptions of its value and concerns, and its perceived impact on academic work. Through a quantitative survey, the study will measure the frequency and extent of ChatGPT use. Qualitative data will explore student perspectives on the benefits of ChatGPT for learning and their concerns regarding its potential misuse. Additionally, the study will investigate how students believe ChatGPT influences their study habits, learning outcomes, and potential academic integrity issues. To Measure student perspectives on using ChatGPT to improve efficiency and manage their academic workload, an analysis using a topic modeling algorithm was used. The findings will contribute to the limited research on LLM usage in the Nigerian educational context, informing strategies for leveraging technology while safeguarding academic integrity and fostering effective learning practices.
