ABSTRACT

This studies an investigation into academic indiscipline among secondary school students in Ovia North East L.G.A of Edo State. The population of the study consists of fifty students in senior secondary school in Benin City. A total of 50 students were selected by proportionate stratified random sampling techniques to ensure that relevant features of the population were adequately represented.

In this study, the researcher applied a survey research design where the researcher employed a cross-sectional survey. The population targeted in this study was students. 10 students each were selected from 5 randomly selected schools in Ovia North East L.G.A of Edo State. The study used two types of sampling procedures which are purposive and simple random sampling methods. The main data sources were questionnaires.The item and questions of the questionnaire were scrutinized and validated by my project supervisor and two other lecturers who are experts in the field of study. The respondents were urged to answer the questions honestly and they were assured of the confidentiality of their answers to these questions. In this study, data collected using a questionnaire was analysed using SPPS software. The process involved coding data, and sorting, and the conclusion was drawn.

Based on the findings, it was identified that the level of indiscipline among secondary school students was high and there are different factors that affect indiscipline among secondary school students. There is a relationship between the level of indiscipline and students’ academic performance among students in secondary schools. The government, policymakers, education reformers, and school administrators should ensure that schools are provided with adequate facilities for teaching and learning, sports and games as well as information communication technology and internet connectivity.
