Summary

The purpose of this preceptorship programme is an intervention to increase the knowledge of pregnant women on pre-eclampsia at Ugbekun Primary Health Centre, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Edo State due to late reporting of symptoms of pre-eclampsia which have led to complications for both pregnant woman and fetus/ mother and child.

The initial survey carried out using an interview method showed that the knowledge level of the pregnant women on pre-eclampsia was low; however, this necessitated the need for an intervention programme that is sufficient to increase their knowledge on pre-eclampsia, importance of keeping to antenatal appointments, importance of reporting health related complains to their health care provider and the importance of medical laboratory test during pregnancy. The intervention programme was centered on health talk which was given to the pregnant women, distribution of hand bills to the women and posting of posters on pre-eclampsia at strategic places within and around the health center. Free urinalysis were done for those who could not afford it and discount price were given to the others.
