SUMMARY

The purpose of this intervention Programme was to promote compliance to exclusive breastfeeding practices among antenatal women in Egor local government area in Edo State using Evbogida primary health care center as the case study due to the low level of awareness of these pregnant women on the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding to the health of both the mother and the child alike.

The survey which was carried out using an interview method showed that there was a low level of awareness amongst the pregnant mothers on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding. This is due to the fact that majority of the respondents are aware of the health benefits of exclusive breastfeeding to both the mother and the child. This prompted the dire need for an intervention Programme to be carried out that will be sufficient to increase the awareness level of these expectant mothers. The intervention Programme was centered on a health talk which was given to the pregnant women, hand bills and posters were distributed to them, a question and answer session was carried out at the end of the talk and the questions were well answered and this further encouraged the pregnant mothers to apply the exclusive breastfeeding practice. As a follow-up to the intervention Programme, posters were pasted at the Evbogida Primary Health Centre to help reinforce and strengthen the information provided during the programme.
