ABSTRACT
This study examined the sources, effects and adaptive strategies to environmental noise in Benin city. The objectives of the study were to identify the main sources of noise, examine the effects of noise on the residents, and examine the relationship between different land use types and noise types. Questionnaires were administered to a total of 405 respondents in the four land uses which the study area was sub divided into and they were all returned valid. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data collected with the aid of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 24.Further analysis was carried out using correlation analysis. The study reveals that there is a relationship between different land use types and noise types. It was found that generators were the major source of noise in the study area and also have detrimental effects on humans. The study recommends that electricity supply should be improved on so as to reduce the use of generators as source of power.
