ABSTRACT

This study investigated an examination of factors influencing students’ behavior towards fine and applied arts in Nigerian universities using the university of Benin as a case study. The purpose of the study was specifically to examine the factors affecting students behavior towards Fine and applied arts, ascertain if the lecturer’s teaching method influences students’ behavior towards Fine and Applied Arts, assess the parental factors that may influence the behavior of students towards fine and applied arts, determine if peer pressure and competition have influence on the student’s behavior towards Fine and Applied Arts, ascertain if financial factor influences student's behavior towards fine and applied arts in the university of Benin. The information gathered in this study was analyzed using Tables, simple percentages and frequencies. the proportionate sampling technique was used in the selection of the sample size. A 14-item questionnaire were administered for the students used in the research. A total of 45 respondent comprising of 200 - 400 level students from the university of Benin were given questionnaires to fill for the study. After collecting the data obtained from the instruments, the mean scores of the data obtained were used to analyze and determine the degree of the relationship of the variables involved. The researcher discovered in the study that multiple factors, such as parental attitudes, peer interactions, teaching methods, competition, and financial constraints, play pivotal roles in shaping students' behavior towards fine and applied arts in Nigerian universities. The researcher concluded by recommending that Higher education institutions ought to improve instructional strategies, raise parental involvement, create a positive peer environment, and strengthen financial aid for fine arts students.
