ABSTRACT

The study focused on the effectiveness of using the exposition method in conveying historical events to primary school pupils in Ika-South Local Government Area of Delta State. A total of One hundred (100) Primary Schools teachers in Ika South Local Government Area were used as the study’s sample.

In order to provide direction for the study, three (3) research questions were raised. The research instrument used in generating data for the study was the questionnaire. The questionnaire was administered among 100 primary school teachers randomly selected from 7 public schools in Delta State. The data collected from the respondents were analyzed with the use of tables and simple percentages.

From the analysis, it was discovered that: History teachers’ have a high level of knowledge on effectiveness of using the exposition method in conveying historical events to primary school pupils, the use of exposition method in conveying historical events have positive impact on the performance of primary school pupils and the use of the exposition method in conveying historical events impacts positively on students’ interest in history. Based on these findings, it was recommended that: History teachers’ should incorporate the use of exposition method in conveying historical events to primary school pupils, History teachers should keep devising several ways of using the exposition method in conveying historical events based on its positive impact on the performance of primary school pupils and that History teachers should adopt the use of the exposition method for all history lessons.
