ABSTRACT

This research work is to investigate the attitudes towards premarital sex and its impact on university of benin student academic performance. Pre-marital sex is increasingly being regarded as a norm by young people. Recently, the prevalence and incidence of premarital sex have been reported in tertiary institutions. There has been growing concern over students’ attitudes and perception of premarital sex.   This study is thus an attempt to carry out an empirical study to ascertain the attitudes of undergraduate students towards premarital sex. Several factors such as peer pressure, financial inducements, poor parental control, and quest for adventure have been advanced in this work as being responsible for incidences of pre-marital sex among undergraduate students. The impact on students ranges from social to psychological. Five research question were formulated with a total of 100 respondents were drawn correspondent. The respondents were chosen using the simple random sampling technique. The study paper thus conclude that premarital sex is undesirable and must be avoided by creating awareness as regards the negative effects of pre-marital sex.
