ABSTRACT
The study evaluates the level of absenteeism among senior secondary school students in Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State. This study was guided by seven research questions and three hypotheses. The study employed the descriptive survey research design. Questionnaire titled level of absenteeism having 32 items was constructed to answer research question 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and It was administered in order to collect data. While research question 1 was answered using attendance records for a full academic session to evaluate the level of absenteeism among senior secondary school students in Oredo Local Government Area, Edo State. Data collected was analysed using t-test at an alpha level of 0.05. The respondents for the study were 300 students drawn from four public and private schools each from Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State. The findings showed that public schools students have a moderate level absenteeism than private schools’ students which experience a low level absenteeism which is higher in males than in female students. A major recommendation of the study was that absenteeism should be a collective effort of the government, school administrators, parents/guardians as well as members of the society so as to fully arrest it.
