Abstract

The over emphasis on the individual’s freedom and rights especially in the English-speaking world has slowly eroded our sense of togetherness. Due to the numerous danger associated with this sort of individualism, the task of political philosophy or philosophers may not be to articulate a just accommodation between competing individuals’ rights, but rather to bring to consciousness the deep-seated commonalities that underpin their sense of belonging to a community. The achievement of this goal is the central aim of communitarianism and Sandel’s notion of justice is indebted to this school of thought. Hence, Sandel attacked Rawls theory of justice on the ground that it revamped individualism in the English Speaking world. Sandel argues for the limits of Liberalism in favour of the primacy of the common good and this is the aim this essay has sort to establish in the previous chapters.
