ABSTRACT
This research investigates the compensation process in obaze community, taking into consideration the compulsory acquisition carried out, the process of compensation and post compensation. It examines and highlights the impact of the compensation process on claimants with a view to providing information that could enhance national and international best practices in compensation exercises. The study utilized a combination of purposive sampling and questionnaire survey to collate results from the claimants, which were then analyzed through descriptive statistics. It found out that the engagement of claimants in the compensation process, outdated compensation standards are some problems affiliated with the unsatisfactory compensation process in Obaze community. More so, lack of true value payment and no resettlement plans were effects of the compensation process. The study suggests communication, diversity in compensation policies, engagement of claimants as solutions to the compensation process in the community and hopefully, other parts of Nigeria
