ABSTRACT
An assessment of the aquatic macrophytes along Ogba River in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria was conducted. The study was carried out at four sites along the river. Four categories of aquatic macrophytes identified consisted of emergent, embarkment, free floating and floating-leaved life forms. A total of 33 species were recorded from the four sampled stations. Association of different aquatic macrophytes occurred along the River. Megathyrsus maximum, Scleria ptetora and Saccharum spontaneum were abundant in all stations and had the greatest coverage. Some of the macrophytes such as Ageratum conyzoides, Sacciolepis africana showed both reproductive and vegetative growth while species such as Nymphaea lotus and Ipomoea aquatica were in vegetative state. Most of the macrophytes recorded showed luxuriant growth.
