ABSTRACT

The study is an assessment on the influence of the internet on media development in Nigeria: a study of ITV and NTA. It is aimed at finding out what the staff of the selected media houses, ITV and NTA think of the influence of the internet on media development in Nigeria. The staff of ITV and NTA believe that the internet plays a major role to their development by serving as a source of information. The respondents agreed that the internet has transformed the media space and enhanced the development of traditional media outlets in Nigeria to a large extent. The findings also show that a majority of the respondents believe that there is a relationship between media development in Nigeria and the internet. For its theoretical framework, the study uses a hybrid of mediamorphosis and perception theory. The word mediamorphosis denotes unifying developments of technologies in media. This theory introduces a framework for accessing change and evaluating new media technologies. While the survey research method was used to gather the data used for the study.
