ABSTRACT
This study examines “The impact of MACSA Ekehuan Watch on Journalism practice among Mass Communication Students of the University of Benin Nigeria”. The goal of the study was determine how MACSA Ekehuan watch has been able to improve journalistic skills of Mass Communication students of the University of Benin along side obvious gaps hinging on its success. The research was anchored on the Social Learning Theory and Agenda settings Theory. A fourteen-item questionnaire was used in the survey design to collect data from 304 undergraduate mass communication students (both part-time and full time) who were chosen through purposive and simple random sampling procedures to represent and reflect the perspectives of all undergraduate mass communication students of the University of Benin. The data collected was presented and analyzed using frequency analysis and descriptive statistics. It was observed that Mass Communication students of the University of Benin have a positive outlook on the impact of MACSA Ekehuan watch in improving journalism practices and this reveals that the efforts to revitalize the practice of campus journalism in the university of Benin is not null. However, The study also found that majority of students are uninterested in participating in its activities. The researcher concluded that MACSA Ekehuan Indeed has positively impacted journalism practices among Mass Communication students of the University of Benin. Based on the findings, the researcher made some recommendations which include (i)there is the need for the executives and other departmental leaders to provide awareness and sensitization about MACSA Ekehuan watch as most students claimed to be unaware of its existence (ii)The executives of MACSA Ekehuan watch need to make the platform appealing to Mass Communication students so as to spur their interest in order for all students to be able to tap from its rich benefits.
