ABSTRACTS

This study to assessed the influence of health education in the  prevention of sexually transmitted infection among undergraduates in the university of Benin.

The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study is consists of the fifty seven thousand six hundred and seventy one (57671) full time undergraduate students of the University of Benin. The sample size of this study is 288 representing 0.5% of the population. The multistage sampling technique was used for this study. Firstly, systematic sampling technique was used to select five faculties out of the 16 faculties in the University of Benin, secondly simple random sampling technique was used to select 3 department from each faculty. Thirdly, respondents were selected using convenience sampling technique. The research instrument used in the study was a four point likert scale questionnaire developed by the researcher, the instrument was validated by the researchers supervisor, the reliability of the instrument was determined by administering 20 questionnaires to respondents who were not part of the study and the reliability coefficient was obtained. The questionnaire was administered and retrieved by the researcher, and all administered questionnaire were valid and complete for the analysis, the data collected was collated and analyzed using descriptive statistics.

The findings of the study were as follow; There is a positive influence of health education on STI prevention among undergraduate students of the University of Benin.Limited number of workshop sessions focusing on STI prevention and lack of a centralized online portal with comprehensive information on STI prevention are the major barriers to assessing health education information on the prevention of STIs among undergraduate of the University of Benin.Students view multiple sources, including university programs, online resources, academic courses, and traditional media, as important and beneficial for their education on STI prevention.Students value multiple delivery methods, including classroom lectures, online courses, workshops, mobile apps, and social media, for receiving comprehensive education on STI prevention.Based on the findings the following were recommended;  The university should expand the number of workshops and seminars focused on STI prevention. Regular, well-publicized events can improve students' engagement and knowledge retention. Establish a comprehensive online portal dedicated to STI prevention information. This portal should offer accessible, up-to-date, and reliable resources, including educational materials, testing locations, and support services.
