ABSTRACT

The study findings emphasize a significant awareness gap among UNIBEN staff concerning the NHF, with many lacking comprehensive knowledge of its existence and benefits. Additionally, the involvement of UNIBEN staff in the NHF program is limited, with only a minority actively contributing. The willingness to adopt NHF facilities varies among staff members, indicating a need for targeted education and engagement efforts. The research highlights various barriers to NHF adoption within the UNIBEN community, including complex bureaucratic processes, low awareness levels, financial constraints, and skepticism about NHF's effectiveness. In conclusion, this study underscores the importance of improving NHF accessibility among public workers, particularly within the University of Benin. The recommended actions, such as awareness campaigns, streamlined processes, financial education, and engagement initiatives, aim to address these challenges and promote affordable housing finance options for UNIBEN staff and other public workers in Nigeria. By addressing these issues, the broader housing finance challenges in the study area and beyond can be mitigated.
