ABSTRACT

This study aims to assess the major agricultural crops produced in Benin Region, examining their yield, productivity, and market potential. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methods. Stratified and random sampling method were used in this study. Three communities in Benin Region were visited, they include Ologbo, Ugbogioboh, and Umegbe. The study found that the major agricultural crops produced in Benin Region include cassava, yams, maize, and plantain, with cassava being the most widely cultivated crop. The study also identified key challenges facing agricultural production in the region, including limited access to credit, inadequate irrigation facilities, and post-harvest loss. The findings of this study highlight the need for targeted interventions to improve agricultural productivity and enhance the livelihoods of farmers in Benin Region. The study's recommendations include the provision of credit facilities, the development of irrigation infrastructure, and the promotion of post-harvest management techniques. The study's findings have implications for agricultural development policy and practice in Nigeria and beyond.
