ABSTRACT
This study assessed household waste generation and management in Ekosodin, Ovia-North East Local Government Area, Edo State. A structured questionnaire was utilized to gather information pertinent to the study from community members as part of the field research methodology. The study collected information from the households who participated in the study of which 400 Questionnaire were administered. The analyses and findings show that plastics (bags and bottles) are the most often produced wastes in Ekosodin. The majority of people do not sort their waste, there is limited knowledge of effective waste management practices. Residents are aware of the damaging effects of waste on the environment, and poor management stems from government's inadequacies as regards proper waste collection system. Finally, suggestions were made regarding the deliberate decrease of plastic packaging throughout production processes and increased awareness-building regarding effective waste management. In order to limit the impact of garbage on the environment, government should actively participate in a proper waste management system by assisting waste managers in carrying out their duties successfully and efficiently.
