ABSTRACT
Electronic banking system has become an important practice among commercial banks in Nigeria. The introduction of E-banking has improved bank efficiency in service delivery and customer satisfaction. It was in line with this concept that the study aimed at assessing electronic banking in Nigeria was carried out. Data was collected from 50 members of the Uniben community and the results specifies that e-banking has been fully accepted by majority of Nigerians as the fastest, easiest and most convenient system for carrying out banking transactions electronically in comfort on time and in style. Most commonly used E-banking product in Nigeria includes Automated teller machine (ATM), Point of sales (POS), Mobile banking, Digital/Mobile wallets, Smart cards (debit and credit cards). A significant relationship has been identified to exist between E-banking and cyber-crimes in Nigeria and methods of alleviating cybercrimes has been extensively discussed in the course of this study. E-banking holds enormous potentials for the banking industry in Nigeria. To achieve this potentials, this paper advocated endangering confidence in the banking sector by addressing security issues and providing necessary infrastructure for the smooth adoption of electronic banking system.
