ABSTRACT

The importance of quality water in aquaculture cannot be over emphasized. This is because fish thrives well in waters with adequate water quality parameters. This study was carried out with the sole aim of examining the variation in the physical, chemical and biological parameters of water quality in the different fishing systems also to determine if the selected water parameters exceed aquatic water desirable levels.

Using descriptive statistical technique such as tables, range and graphs, the study found out that all the 6 sampled ponds are of below the World Health Organization Standard of the 19water quality parameter used to analyze the water quality of the 6ponds, only pond A (Deep concrete ) fells within the standard limit of 8 of the parameters. Coming close are ponds B (Plastic pond) and D (Tarpaulin pond) which fall within the standard limit of only 4 of the 19 paramenters; while ponds C (tank pond) and E (earthen pond) come last falling within the standard limit of only 3 of the 19 parameters.

The study therefore recommends that all stakeholders play active in ensuring that pond waters are med safe so as to ensure the continuous sustenance of aquaculture practices.
