ABSTRACT

Teaching Practice is an integral component of teacher training in Universities and Colleges all over Nigeria. It is mandatory in all faculties of education and colleges of education for students in education. Students are sent out every year to schools to undergo this exercise. In the University of Benin, our school for case study, it occurs in 300 and 400 levels of the Ist semesters of every school year, for the duration of 12 weeks but it varies in other schools. This activity gives student teachers the experience of the actual reality of what the teaching profession entails.

This study looks at the problems student teachers face during this exercise and to proffer solutions to the identified problems. The sample was drawn from the final year students of English and literature, University of Benin. The data was collected through the use of questionnaire and was administered to 110 students and retrieved.

The findings of this research indicated the problems encountered by student teachers and recommendations were therefore given on how to curb these problems.
