ABSTRACT
Crime is an inseparable part of the society. The victim who is a vital part of crime and a key factor in the criminal justice system has remained the party whom the law places less emphasis on. Their status has been reduced to just a prosecution witness or worse still a crime reporter.
These victims have suffered loss in various degrees for instance, the family who has lost their bread winner to robbers or assassins and is trying to cope with their general welfare and stability.
The child who is coming to terms with the realities of abuse, the lady whom is trying to cope with traumatic effect of rape or the victim living with scars from a brutal attack.
The accused on the other hand is given so much right and protection by the state so much that until he is proven convicted by a court of competent jurisdiction, he is presumed to be innocent. The prosecution on the other hand has to prove his case beyond reasonable doubt, There should be more concern about the stability of the victims and it is the duty of the criminal justice system to take account of and redress the personal injury suffered by these victims.
