SUMMARY

This essay attempts to examine human trafficking laws and the regulatory organs that are in charge of human trafficking laws in this 21st century. In chapter one of this essay, there was the recognition of the fundamental human rights of citizens in Nigeria and the world at large. The essay goes forward to give different definitions of human trafficking and also the most acceptable definition of human trafficking in the world, which states that trafficking in person means the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipts of persons by means of threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception of the abuse of power of of a position of vulnerability or of giving or receiving of payment for the benefit of consent. It was established that human trafficking is not a new discovery and has ravaged the world for a very long time in the form of slavery. This chapter also gives an insight on the history of human trafficking and how slave trade has a significant historical impact in Africa. It talks about how slaves were transported from different areas in the world and always ended up in Northern Africa and Middle East.
