ABSTRACT

The right of every child to dignity and protection from harm is guaranteed by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 and the Child's Right Act 2003. Children are to be protected from circumstances that can make them subject to ills such as child trafficking and child labour. Several literature have been analysed on this topic and also this research has attempted to examine the causes of child trafficking and child labour in Nigeria as well as the effects of Child trafficking and Child labour on the child and nation. This research employs a doctrinal research method with reliance on primary and secondary sources. It examines the Child's Right Act and other legal frameworks for child protection in Nigeria with the aim of ascertaining the extent to which its provisions serve as a cure to the malaise in Nigeria. It therefore recommends the amendment of the Child’s Right Act as well as the need for mechanisms for implementation in every state for protection of children from Child trafficking and child labour in Nigeria.
