ABSTRACT
The rights of children are very essential and should be protected. Children are persons who are not up to eighteen years old. They have rights and these rights should be protected, the legal provisions are the Child Rights Act (CRA), the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC), and Conventions on the Rights of a Child CRC were enacted to protect children, and these legal provisions should be adhered to. This project also examines major issues children face in the world today like child labour, child marriage, child trafficking, and child abuse and its signs, effects, and consequences. The aim of this this project is to identify ways to curb these major issues children face by providing solutions. This project is doctrinal. The research was carried out using articles, books, and newspapers. In my findings, the Legal provisions are still not taken seriously by Nigerians, the constitution, the Child Rights Act (CRA) the criminal code, and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), should all be amended because some of the statutes failed to provide rights for the welfare of children. Also, some of these act like the Child Rights Act (CRA) has still not been made applicable in all states in Nigeria. Also, the Penal Code was not used for this research because it does not provide rights that protect children. Instead, it provides the opposite and justifies major issues that can be detrimental to the welfare of children. The Child and Young Persons Act(CYPA) was also not included in this thesis because it focuses on juvenile delinquency and fails to provide for major issues children face like child labour, child trafficking, child marriage, and child abuse. The government should handle children’s rights seriously and ensure that these rights are adhered to by giving punishment to persons who also fail to obey these rights.
