ABSTRACT
Aesthetics, is centered on the concept of beauty, aesthetics holds significant importance in human existence. It can be looked at through Western, Eastern, or African viewpoints. Much like philosophy, aesthetics is closely tied to cultural context. In African cultures, aesthetic appreciation is deeply rooted in the vital forces that shape customs and beliefs. These forces forms the bedrock of communal values and daily life in African societies. This study presents an appraisal of African aesthetics within the Yoruba worldview, a prominent ethnic group in Nigeria, West Africa. The Yoruba people have a rich artistic heritage, encompassing a diverse range of artistic expressions, rituals, and beliefs. The study explores the fundamental principles that shape Yoruba aesthetics, including its communal perspective, emphasis on balance, harmony and strong connections to spirituality and religion. It examines the significance of symbolism and representation in Yoruba art, where artistic expressions serve as a medium of communication with the spiritual world and convey cultural knowledge and history.
