ABSTRACT
This study was on the Apostolic response to the crisis within the Christian community in 1 John and it's implications for contemporary Christians in Benin City. The aim of this research was to examine and understand the nature and the effect of crisis which rocked the early church of Ephesus in 1 John, so as to draw useful lessons for contemporary Christians in Benin City. The method employed for this research is the biblical theological approach and the historical approach. One of the findings of this research is that false teachers along with their heresies can lead a church to a state of apostasy and schism. The study therefore, recommended that church pastors, leaders and all people in position of authority should endeavor to intervene in church controversies and conflicts on time before it develops into a state where it seriously endangers the well being of their congregations. More so, church members should reject and refute any teachings that suppose a sinless perfection state.
