ABSTRACT
The need for the protection of copyright cannot be over-emphasized as copyright protection encourages owners of such rights to engage their creative intellect in more creativity for the benefit of the society. There are legal and institutional frameworks for the protection ofcopyright in Nigeria, chief amongst them are the; Copyright Act and its enforcement and regulatory body, the Nigerian Copyright Commission. Others include the various regulations made pursuant to the Copyright Act, Collecting societies, Nigeria Broadcasting Commission, National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion, etc., enacted and created to protect copyright in Nigeria,. At the international sphere, there are instruments, such as the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works, Trade Related Aspect of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), the Rome Convention, etc, all enacted and created to protect works of copyright.
