ABSTRACT
Based on the findings of the study it recommended that there is an urgent need to evolve a feasible legal framework for dealing with the issue of piracy in the industry. This is a responsibility for the government, particularly in view of the immense socio-cultural and economic benefits that a blossoming Nollywood could attract to the nation. The extant statutes in Nigeria do not specifically address the issue of piracy as it relates to the movie industry. However, in the light of the emergent reality of Nollywood as a major socio-economic force with the potential to boost the national economy in significant ways, there is a strong need to redress the status quo. Such legal framework must spell out stiff sanctions for anyone found culpable in the movie piracy conspiracy in Nigeria. This will no doubt serve as strong deterrent to all and sundry who intend to tread that path and in the final analysis boost the economic fortunes of movie makers, making available the funds necessary upgrading.
