ABSTRACT

This research work scrutinized the semantic analysis of sense relations in Ika. Other studies have been done sense relation on Igbo and Ibibio. This work intends to fill the gap of the proper documentation on Ika sense relations as well as preserve the culture of the Ika people. The theoretical framework used to carry out this work is ‘Descriptive Theory’. The source of this project is gotten from interviews, which is the primary data and books, journals which are secondary data. The findings of the study are the sense relations as the relations of meaning between words as expressed in synonyms, antonyms, and hyponyms. Sense relations are the relationships between words that give words their meaning, there is a little that has been documented about sense relations in Ika It needs to be expanded on, sense relations in Ika especially for synonyms have same meanings of words in common. In conclusion sense relations in Ika are differentiated into different types and are to be used accordingly. Words that have same meanings have different pronunciation to the words.
