AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENT’S UNDERSTANDING OF ACID BASE CONCEPT IN CHEMISTRY.

ABSTRACT

Students understanding over the years has been an area of concern, the study examined students understanding of acid base concept among various school and between male and female students in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. To guide the study two research questions were raised.

The research design adopted was survey design, with sample size of hundred students from twelve schools in Egor Local Government Area Benin City. The instrument for the data collection was a questionnaire. The instrument was subjected to face validity. The instrument was pilot experimented to form the data collected with reliability co-efficient of 0.75 using cronbach alpha formular. The validated instrument was used and data's collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics.

The findings of the study shows that students understanding can be as a result of Intelligence quotient, teaching method or students laziness. Based on the findings it was recommended among others that students should be encouraged to shun laziness and study their books as it will help them become knowledgeable about any course of study.
