ABSTRACT
The aim of this research study was to investigate student’s attitude towards the study of human kinetics in Benin metropolis. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design and questionnaire was the instrument used in gathering relevant information from the respondents. The population of the study comprises the 109,383 students in 318 public junior secondary schools in Edo State. The sample size for this study was 90 students in secondary schools in Edo State. The multi-stage sampling procedure was adopted to select the sample for the study while frequency, percentages and means were used as a method of data analysis. The findings revealed that there are inadequate Physical Education resources in schools. It was also revealed that the attitudes of teachers towards Physical Education also have an influence on the behaviour of the students. The study further revealed that insufficient time is allocated to Physical Education and hence contributes to the adverse attitude towards the subject by students. It was also discovered that parents also play a good role in the attitudes of their children towards Physical Education. The findings finally revealed that gender factor also influence students’ attitudes towards Human Kinetics, as the male students displayed a more positive attitude towards the study of Physical Education than the females. Based on the findings, the study recommended among others that Government curriculum planners should introduce Physical Education and make it compulsory from J.S.S 1 - S.S 3. Books and other materials should be made available to students to facilitate positive responses to Human Kinetics. Adequate resources should be provided in schools so as to bring about a positive attitude from students towards Physical Education. Physical Education teachers should be adequately trained to teach all levels of education and faculties.
