ABSTRACT
This study focused on the phonological schemes and semantic contradictions that can be found in English Premier League football commentaries. In the first chapter, we examined the purpose and scope of the study, which was limited to only the commentaries from the English Premier League football competition. Also explored is the method of data collection and analysis that aided the work and this was done through secondary means, that is, all data collected for the purpose of this work were gathered online from YouTube. The study further examined the limitations and problems encountered during the course of putting this work together, and in the aspect of the theory, the stylistics theory sufficed as the framework or background for data presentation and analysis. Then, some brilliant works on football commentary analysis in general were reviewed, paving the way for further analysis.
