ABSTRACT
This research work examines the legal instruments for combating corruption in Nigeria. Corruption is a societal ill. It involves the abuse of entrusted power for private and selfish gain. Corruption exists in various forms like; bribery, extortion, electoral fraud, electronic fraud, nepotism, kleptocracy, etc. Corruption occurs in every sector and institution of a nation, both at private and public sector, and even in the lowest level- between individuals. Corruption affects the growth and development of a nation, it hampers the effective administration and governance of a nation. The aim of this study is to analyze the causes, challenges and solution to corruption in Nigeria. The study finds the grave effect of corruption on the economy, security and other essential sectors of the nation. It further studies the challenges the government has faced in the fight against corruption, with this it studies the establishments of various anti-corruption agencies with the purpose of combating corruption and other related offences. This study recommends and concludes that the reduction of corruption in the nation would improve the development and growth of corruption. It recommends for the amendment of the existing anti-corruption laws as well as enacting new statutes. It studies countries that have been successful in her fight against corruption and few things that can assist Nigeria in its fight against corruption.
