ABSTRACT
This study explores the evolving landscape of electoral law in Nigeria, using the 2023 Presidential election as a case study. The 2022 Electoral Act brought significant changes to Nigeria's electoral process, most notably the introduction of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the INEC Results Viewing Portal (IReV). These technologies were designed to improve transparency and trust in the electoral process. This research investigates how INEC implemented these innovations during the 2023 Presidential election and assesses their impact on the election's integrity. It examines whether BVAS and IReV effectively reduced electoral fraud and ensured accurate results. Additionally, the study looks at the judiciary's role in resolving election disputes and maintaining the fairness of the process. By analyzing legal documents, election data, and court cases, this study provides a detailed look at the successes and challenges of the 2023 election. It offers insights into the progress made and the obstacles that remain in the pursuit of a more transparent and fair electoral system in Nigeria.
