ABSTRACT
The study was designed to analyse communication and organization growth. The objectives of the study include the following: to Investigate the current communication channels and structures within the University of Benin to examine the challenges faced by the university in the realm of communication. Assess the impact of communication on the organizational growth of the University of Benin.
The study adopted survey research design. The population of study of this research is made up of staffs of the University of Benin, Edo state. The sample size of this study is 100 respondents drawn from population. The population of the study consists of the 8200 academic and non academic staff of the University of The instrument used for the collection of data was the questionnaire which was administered to the study sampled respondents. Out of the 100 questionnaires distributed, 80 copies were retrieved. The data collected was analyzed using simple percentage and chi square analytical method to test the hypotheses generated for the study.
The findings from the study shed light on existing gaps in communication within the university. These gaps, once identified, become integral points for improvement, holding the potential to cultivate a more cohesive and well-informed university community, The research highlights the symbiotic relationship between communication, leadership, and organizational growth at the University of Benin. The acknowledgment of communication as a catalyst for growth, identification of communication gaps, and the call for leadership involvement collectively advocate for a holistic approach in fostering a communicative and growth-oriented environment within the institution. Based on the findings of the study, the following recommendations were made;The University of Benin should assess and enhance its communication structures, ensuring a seamless flow of information across departments. Emphasis should be placed on integrating both traditional and digital channels effectively.Implement measures to break down communication silos, manage information overload, and establish effective feedback mechanisms. This may involve training programs, streamlined communication protocols, and the use of collaborative platforms. Develop and implement a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with the university's objectives. This strategy should emphasize transparency, clarity, and adaptability to ensure effective communication and support organizational growth.Regularly assess the effectiveness of communication initiatives, seeking feedback from stakeholders. Continuous improvement based on these assessments will contribute to a dynamic and adaptive communication environment.
