ABSTRACT
The research, “An Analysis of Broadcast Media Projections of Edo ‘BEST’ Basic Public Education Image” examined the implementation of the Edo BEST programme, how these projections have influenced the public perception of the programme. The study sought to evaluate the prominence, frames, assessment of the accuracy and reports of the programme as well as the impact of media representation on the public image of the programme. The study was anchored on the agenda setting theory and the reflective projections theory. In order to realise its objectives, the mixed research method which include both content analysis of the Edo BEST programme and survey research was adopted using purposive sampling method in drawing sample of 100 respondents from Egor LGA of Edo State. The study used a 21-item questionnaire as its instrument for collecting data and eliciting responses from the respondents on the topic of study. Findings of the study revealed that the prominence given to the Edo BEST programme by Rhythm 93.7 can be considered fair. The audience demonstrated awareness of the Edo BEST programme and its impact to an extent. However, the audience identified some instances of inaccurate information regarding the programme. In the light of this, the study recommended that media organisations, including Rhythm 93.7, should strive for accuracy in their coverage of the Edo BEST programme. Also, Efforts should be made to address any misconceptions or misunderstandings surrounding the programme which can be achieved through proactive communication and engagement with the public, providing clear and transparent information about goals, achievements and impact of the Edo BEST programme.
