ABSTRACT

This research explores the potential liver-protective benefits of Entandrophragma utile extract at a 400mg/kg body weight dose on Wistar rats with CCl4-induced liver damage. Notable rises in alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels were observed in the untreated group, indicating liver injury. The administration of the ethanolic extract of Entandrophragma utile demonstrated promising liver-protective effects, as evidenced by a reduction in ALT, AST, and ALP activities compared to the control group. The hepatoprotective properties of the Entandrophragma utile extract were found to be as effective as or possibly more noteworthy than those seen with silymarin, a recognized hepatoprotective medication. This study offers scientific evidence supporting the potential medicinal benefits of Entandrophragma utile in safeguarding against liver injury caused by CCl4.
