ABSTRACT

The vital contribution of the banking sector to the Nigerian economy means it is crucial for companies to focus on retaining existing employees. One means of doing this is to improve job satisfaction, work involvement, and organisational commitment among employees. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships between job satisfaction, job involvement, organisational commitments, and intent to quit employment using a sample of employees’ working in the banking industry. In this research work the researcher investigated alienation using organisational commitment, job satisfaction, and job involvement as measures of alienation in the workplace as it relates to intentions to quit among bank employees. The data used were collected using questionnaires and the data were analysed using simple percentage and frequency. Chi-square was used to test the hypotheses raised by the researcher. To encourage better retention and reduction of alienation among workers, management should seek to adopt policies that focus not only on pay but also provide promotion and training opportunities aimed at investing in employees’ skills development.
