AGITATION FOR REGIONAL SECURITY AND STATE POLICING IN THE NIGERIAN FEDERALISM; ISSUES, PERSPECTIVE AND THE WAY FORWARD

ABSTRACT

The study empirically examined the relationship between Regional security and state policing. Challenges of insecurity have always been one of the issue of the Nigerian federation. It is also important to note that the insecurity issues has gone beyond the power of the government and cannot be controlled by state policing alone and thus brought about the agitation for regional security outfits in Nigeria.There has been the issues between the police and Regional security and having varying objectives how on to curb the insecurity. Both security agencies are a threat to each other and have refused to coordinate themselves and work together to securing the country and the lives of the people. The lack of understanding between the both security agencies have brought about loss of lives and properties and many others.This project work is a research carried out on how to resolve the issues between state policing and regional securities and know the way forward in curbing insecurity in the nation. Based on the findings, it was recommended The Nigerian government should put a mechanism in place that would allow the financial institutions to be able to monitor every unusual financial transactions, this would enable the government to be able to track the financial backers of the terrorists groups.
