ABSTRACT
This purpose of this study was to find out aggression and frustration as correlates of sports performance among athletes of sports commission in Edo state. Eight research purpose were raised and eight corresponding hypothesis were formulated at 0.05 level of significance. The correlation research design was adopted for the study. The population for the study consisted of 650 athletes in sport commissions of Edo state. The sample size of the study was made up of 130 athletes; multistage sampling procedure was used to select the athletes. The validity of the study was ascertained by three experts, two in the Department of Human Kinetics and Sports Science and one from the Department of Educational Evaluation and Counseling Psychology all from the University of Benin. The Cronbach alpha statistics was used to establish the reliability and a reliability index of 0.68 was obtained indicating that the instrument was reliable. Hypotheses 1,2,4,5,6,7 were analyzed with Pearson product moment correlation coefficient while Multiple Regression analysis was used to analyze the hypotheses 3 and 8. The findings of the study revealed that there is a significant relationship exciting between aggression and sport performance. More so, there was a significant relationship between frustration and sport performance of athletes in Edo state Sports Commission. It was concluded that there is a positive relationship between aggression, frustration and sport performance among athletes of sport commission in Edo state. It was therefore recommended that athletes should learn to channel their emotions of aggression and frustration into competitions. Aggression and frustration can be harnessed to become a source of motivation and determination, leading to improved performance.
