SUMMARY
This research work examined African music as an instrument of transnational relations using the Nigerian music industry as a case study. The study was informed by the need to expand the priorities of knowledge on the utility of music to humanity. Beyond its use for recreation and entertainment, this study seeks to interrogate the usefulness of music to statecraft, global partnership and international cooperation and collaboration. This was clearly seen in the exploits of Nigerian artistes such as Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid and Tems among others who have expanded the frontiers of Nigerian music, rebranded it, and gave it a new global appeal. Their music coloration with Western artistes, this study finds to be a classical example of transnational relations in the international system that has so far been under-studies by scholars. African music is more of a way of life than just music, it encompasses or transcend between culture, religion, and tradition. African music has gone through phases of changes that has brought it into limelight from the likes of old school music, classical music, and the modern type of music.
