ABSTRACT

This project critically examines the dance performance of Ema Royal Dance of Ughelli People as a means of communication. To achieve this, the video clips of the dance were watched, analyzed and a thorough research on dance performance was carried out. Literary methodology was also explored to determine the theoretical basic aspect of the research. Thus, the research conclude that African dancecan also be a means to communicate our culture to the younger generations. This research examines African Dance as a means of communication. Using Ema royal dance of Ughelli people as case study, the studies, the origin, performance and function of the dance among thepeople. Literacy and interview research methods were used to gather necessary information for the research. The research findings point to the fact that Ema dance functions in royal performances as ameans of communication not only to entertain but to teach the cultural history of the people as well as emphasize the sacred nature of the ceremony it occurs.
