ABSTRACT
English language is widely spoken across the globe. Edo language is spoken locally in it's geographical location (South-South) and probably in some parts of the country by the native speakers of the language. This research studies the two languages contrastively. The notion of contrastive analysis is essentially aimed at establishing the possibilities of differences or similarities in any field of interest. The theory of grammar universals proposes that all languages whatever their composition and disposition are structurally and semantically identical. The notion of the universality of morphology in the same vein, proposes that there exist the concept of morphemes and morphological processes in all languages of the world.
This account for the reason why this research looks at morphological processes as used in both languages. We examined the notion of morphological processes in Edo. To establish what processes are employed and how they occur in English. It is based on this contrast that data was generated for analysis on the findings of the research. The research adopt qualitative research design with descriptive paradigm, The study is also premised on cognitive and conceptual theories . Data for the study was collected through oral interview, and personal intuition as a native speaker of Edo language. Data for the study was also collected from textbooks, journals, article, dissertation and theses. The major findings of the study reveal that the component of morphology in the study of natural languages is exhibited in the structure of both languages . That the concept of morphology as widely acclaimed in the study of natural languages exist in the structure of both languages. That they exist some points of similarities, and dissimilarities in both languages (English and Edo).
