ADOPTION OF COMPUTER ANIMATION IN JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL IN EGOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, BENIN CITY, EDO STATE

ABSTRACT

This study was set to examine the adoption of computer animated learning in junior secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area (LGA) in Edo State. To this end, four research questions were generated. The researcher employed the descriptive survey design method. The sample for the study comprised of 100 (one hundred) junior secondary school students Egor local government area through availability sampling technique. The instruments for data collection were multiple choice and alternative response test questions and a questionnaire on demographic data of respondents. The instruments were validated by three experts, comprising an art educator, measurements and evaluating officer alongside a vocational and technical educator. For the internal consistency of the instrument, test of reliability was established with Cronbach Alpha 0.79. The findings reveals that there is a need for computer animation been incorporated into learning. The study also shows that there were significant effect computer animation has on Junior secondary school students as it touches critical thinking, cognitive development, collaboration skills, communication skills and problems solving skills. In addition, the study revealed that there are impact, importance and advantages of a technology infusion in the educational system for students in Junior Secondary School in Egor LGA. The study also revealed how computer animation is going to impact Junior secondary school students intellectually. Therefore, it was recommended that government to allocate the adequate resources to schools, government and policy makers should implement a comprehensive art curriculum which will cover computer animation so to help instill the necessary skills in the students, governments and schools should create a supportive environment, schools and teachers should encourage peer collaboration, students should be evaluated and assessed regularly and schools should collaborate with art based non-governmental organizations in promoting computer animation.
