ABSTRACT
The study investigated the adequacy of human resources and physical facilities for teaching business studies in public secondary schools in Akoko-Edo local government area. Six research questions guided the study while three hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. An ex-post facto research design was used for the study. The population comprised all the twenty-nine public junior secondary schools in Akoko-Edo local government area. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 16 schools which represented 55% of the study population. A Checklist titled: “Adequacy of Human and Physical Facilities Checklist” (AHRPFC) was the main instrument used to collect data for the study. The instrument was designed by the researcher and validated by the research supervisor and two other lecturers with specialization in business education from the Department of Vocational and Technical Education, University of Benin, Benin City. Data collected were analysed using mean, and standard deviation to answer the research questions while t-test statistics was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that the level of human resources and physical adequacy for the teaching of business studies in public junior secondary schools were low and inadequate. The study also found that instructional resources were inadequate while there was no significant difference in the adequacy of human resources and physical facilities for the teaching of business studies in Junior Secondary Schools based on size, location and age. Therefore, it was recommended that government should address the problem of manpower supply in business studies through recruitment of new staff. It was also recommended that government, parents, and non-governmental organizations should assist in providing physical and instructional facilities that can promote the teaching of vocational subjects in all schools amongst others.
