ABSTRACT

Asthma is a chronic lung disease characterized by reversible airway obstruction resulting in inflammation of the lung's airways and contraction of the muscles around them. It is usually caused by a complex environmental and genetic interaction. Solanum nigrum loca popularly known as black nightshade is a herb used in various parts of the world for the treatment of various ailments including asthma. Ovalbumin, an antigenic protein which induces inflammation in the lungs of the guinea pigs. The evaluation of the effect of solanum nigrum loca on the lymphocytes of guinea pigs was carried out by sensitizing the guineapigs with ovalbumin, thereby inducing asthma, and then they were treated with the ethanol extract of solanum nigrum loca.
