SUMMARY
The theoretical framework is linked up with family and academic performance of students. In order to adequately understand and examine the negative contextual effect of the number of children from single-parent families at school, one need to first elaborate on the reason why children from single-parent families perform worse at school than children from two-parent families. McLanahan and Sandefur (1994) give an extensive description of the three types of resources i.e., financial, parental, and social that are important in explaining the impact of living with a single parent on children’s chances of future success.
