ABSTRACT

The study was designed to access the factors preventing Nigerian secondary schools from integrating ICT into teaching and learning process, four research questioned were generated to guide the research. The study adopted a survey research method. A sample of eighty (80) senior secondary teachers in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State were selected as a sample for the study. A questionnaire was the instrument used in collection of data. The data collected were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, T-test and ANOVA The result revealed that the integration of ICT into secondary schools in Nigeria faces significant challenges. The availability of ICT infrastructure, teacher ICT literacy, student ICT literacy, and school and government policies all play a role in preventing the effective use of ICT in teaching and learning process. Based the results it was recommended that providing teachers with more training on how to use ICT effectively in the classroom, developing and implementing professional development programs for teachers on ICT integration. Encourage schools to develop ICT-rich teaching and learning resources and activities. Also, support students in developing their ICT skills and knowledge. Develop policies and procedures to support ICT integration in schools with additional support for schools in terms of funding, maintenance and upgrading of ICT infrastructure, as well as clear policies on ICT integration, would also be helpful in rectifying the situation.
